By now, one would be hard-pressed to find someone that is not at least a little familiar with the “Toy Story” franchise. The three movies follow the lives of one little boy’s toys, and how they deal with familiar obstacles like the family moving and the boy growing older. One of the most iconic lines in the movie is Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase: “To infinity and beyond!”
The phrase encapsulates a number of uplifting ideas, including the ability to take something good and make it that much better. In essence, this is what Buzz Lightyear does for Woody — although the two characters clash when Buzz first comes into the mix, they quickly find out that they work better as a team. The same can be said of Microsoft and Hostway — the two are mutually advantageous, and offer even better services when combined.
Recently, Hostway announced a momentous change to its service portfolio: virtual and dedicated cloud services based on some of Microsoft’s best offerings, Windows Server 2012 R2 and the Azure Pack.
With this partnership, Hostway takes something that was already beneficial — its cloud services — and takes it to infinity and beyond. Let’s see how this is possible.
Hostway and Microsoft: A match made in heaven
Just as Woody and Buzz come with their unique characteristics – Woody, the seasoned front-runner leading the group, and Buzz, the new kid on the block with a few tricks up his sleeve – so too are Microsoft and Hostway an ideal pairing.
Microsoft is an established leader in the technology industry, and boasts partnerships with some of the most well-known and innovative organizations in the marketplace. Hostway, on the other hand, is cementing its position in the hosting industry, offering a range of essential enterprise solutions including website presence, application and email hosting. By joining forces, the two can provide the best possible cloud offerings for their combined customer bases.
With the help of Microsoft’s Server 2012 R2 and Azure Pack solutions, Hostway’s new cloud offerings provide “greater and granular control,” as well as “better performance and predictability,” according to Tony Savoy, Hostway’s general manager and vice president of managed hosting and cloud services.
What does Windows Server 2012 R2 bring to the table?
But just how do these systems come together to create more valuable cloud offerings? Windows Server 2012 R2 offers new capabilities for cloud users, including performance enhancements that provide boosted responsiveness, enabling faster deployment of virtual servers.
In addition, Server 2012 R2 improves failover with Hyper-V’s live migration, ensuring high availability of services and robust disaster recovery. Microsoft’s system also offers virtual machine self-service and other cloud resources, guaranteeing that clients can take control of their cloud platforms and leverage them in a way that makes the most sense for their business.
Hostway CEO Robert Boles noted that customers lacking the available bandwidth to fully manage their cloud environments can now look to Hostway to support their private cloud platforms.
“Our virtual and dedicated private cloud services based on Windows Server 2012 R2 really provide the flexibility the market has been looking for in terms of customers managing their cloud resources,” Boles said. “This also enables customers using the Microsoft stack to easily move between public, private, hybrid and dedicated services as their business needs change.”
“As Buzz Lightyear would put it, Microsoft takes Hostway’s cloud to infinity and beyond.”
How does the Azure Pack benefit Hostway’s cloud services?
The Windows Azure Pack also provides advantages, including more control and flexibility for granular management of cloud resources. With the Azure Pack in place, customers that already utilize Microsoft tools and APIs need not learn new usage skills or rearrange their existing systems. This offers a Azure-consistent user experience, as well as the ability to have Hostway manage part or all of the provided cloud solutions.
“Leveraging the Windows Server 2012 R2 platform and Azure Pack, Hostway’s virtual private cloud solution can help speed time to value and reduce cost by simplifying underlying infrastructure and delivering the flexibility to move workloads between on-premises environments and the cloud,” Michael Leworthy, Microsoft’s Enterprise Cloud group manager, pointed out.
With the help of Microsoft’s Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Azure Pack, Hostway’s virtual and dedicated private cloud solutions provide better performance, improved management capabilities and flexibility not seen with any other solution. Buzz Lightyear would be proud.
